A WALK AROUND HALEIWA TOWN

The North Shore of Oahu always offers something magical to experience. Winter or Summer, it doesn’t matter the time of year you visit.

The months between November and February are the best times to see big wave surfing.  The massive waves can sometimes swell up to thirty feet or more—dangerous even for experienced surfers—so always heed warning signs. From May to September, the waves subside, creating a more tranquil atmosphere for surfing and swimming. One of the most important and enjoyable thing to me…the ocean. Make sure to visit the famous beaches such as Sunset and Pipeline, and witness amateurs or pros take on one of the worlds gnarliest waves.

What: Historic surf town
Where: North Shore roughly an hour from Waikiki

Looking for a great spot to spot turtles?

Laniakea Beach translates to “wide sky”…you’ll understand once you arrive and look beyond the sea.  But I guarantee you’ll be more fixated on the turtles on the beach than looking up into the sky.  In fact this Oahu beach is also known as Turtle Beach, and for good reason.

Your first stop along the North Shore will be charming Haleiwa, about a one-hour drive from Waikiki. More than the laid-back surf town it seems, Haleiwa is filled with local style and country ambiance, as well as cool surf shops and boutiques, charming art galleries and understated restaurants housed in plantation-era buildings.

Rich with island history, Haleiwa is now the social and artistic hub of the North Shore. Here you’ll find surfers fueling up on shrimp or other delicacies at one of the town’s abundant food trucks before hitting the famous beaches of Waimea Bay, Ehukai (Banzai Pipeline) and Sunset Beach. You’ll also find locals and visitors winding down with a shaved ice after a day in the sun or shopping at boutiques filled with unique gifts that will allow you to bring back a piece of Hawaii with you. My favourite shop there is Lemuria (they also have a location in Kailua). Check them out and given them a follow on Instagram.
